INTERNATIONAL ORDERS OF BAMBOO SEEDS ...
Can bamboo seeds be exported from Thailand?
- Yes, we export bamboo seeds throughout year. Usually, we send seeds by post.
Can bamboo seeds be imported into my country?
- Every country has its own plant import regulations which can be very restrictive (e.g. USA) or very reasonable (e.g. Thailand). We have successfully exported bamboo seeds to the USA, so why not also to your country? Please read our guidelines on how to find out plant import regulations.
Are bamboo species endangered species, hence restricted by CITES?
- Bamboo species belong to the subfamily Bambusoideae of the grass family, Poaceae (alternative name: Gramineae). No bamboo species has ever been classified as an endangered species by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), hence trade/import of bamboos is not restricted by CITES. Our bamboos are clearly labeled and declared, and species' names (bontanical names) are given.
Is there a minimum order required?
- There is no minimum order required if you do not need a Phytosanitary Certificate for bamboo import.
- Minimum amount of money per order: No minimum is required.
- Minimum quantity of seeds per order: Minimum quantity is 1 pack of seeds as described in the Bamboo Seeds Catalog, if not otherwise stated.
- Some bamboo species may show a low germination rate, therefore please consider to order a sufficient quantity of seeds.
- A quantity larger than 50 seeds will usually be offered by weight, not by number of seeds.
What is the minimum order if a Phytosanitary Certificate is needed for bamboo import?
- Minimum amount of money per order: 4,000 THB value of seeds.
- Minimum quantity of seeds per order: Minimum quantity is usually 40 gram of seeds per species/variety.
- These minimum terms apply to a one-time executable order: Seeds that can be sent in 1 shipment only.
Which mode of shipment is possible?
- We send seeds by post as (1) Registered Airmail Letter, or (2) Registered Airmail Small Packet, or (3) Express Mail Service (EMS-Package). We will email you track record one day after dispatch of shipment.
- (1) Registered Airmail Letter: If the importer does not give shipment directives, we usually send packs of seeds in normal white B6 envelopes as Registered Airmail Letter, each letter up to 20 gram weight, sealed, without green Customs Declaration slip (CN22), without invoice, and – for security reasons – at different dates (2-3 days apart). Usually, a 20 gram letter can contain packs of seeds up to about 8 gram as follows: 1 × 8 g pack, or 3 × 2 g packs, or 2 × 3 g packs, or 1 × 3 g + 1 × 2 g packs.
- (2) Registered Airmail Small Packet: We send by this mode only if the importer explicitly requires so. Small Packets are not sealed but closed with staples, with a green Customs Declaration slip (CN22) attached to the outside (which states contents and value). We do not include an invoice except if the importer explicitly demands. Small Packets up to 20 gram weight will be sent in brown envelopes of 18 × 10 cm size. Usually, a Small Packet over 20 gram will be sent in a padded CD envelope, or padded B5 or B4 envelope. If wanted, a shipment can be split for security reasons into two or more Small Packets, each up to 20 or 50 gram weight, and sent 2-3 days apart.
- (3) Express Mail Service (EMS-Package): Seeds can be sent in a sealed, normal white B6 envelope, or, usually for a weight of over 20 gram, in a padded envelope, or cardboard box. It goes with a customs declaration (contents, value). We do not include an invoice except if the importer explicitly demands. As compared to shipment modes (1) and (2), EMS is rather expensive and may reach its destination only a few days earlier. However, EMS is recommended for so-called "wet" seeds (e.g. Qiongzhuea seeds) which loose viability within a few weeks.
- If the importer wishes bamboo seeds being shipped by another carrier (e.g. UPS, FedEx, DHL), then the importer has to choose the carrier and settle shipment order in his country in advance, and send us the way bills.
What are the postage rates?
- Postage rates depend on country of destination, weight, and type of postal service. Weight is usually up to 20 g, or up to 50 g. See: Table of Charges.
What are the handling charges?
- Handling charges comprise packing and packing material, and processing the package(s) to post office or other carrier. See: Table of Charges.
Do bamboo seeds need to be accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate?
- This depends on the plant import regulations of the destination country. We can arrange to get a Phytosanitary Certificate at 1,900 THB per shipment, issued by the Chiang Mai Plant Quarantine Station; the document will be inside the package, or attached outside if explicitly required.
What about availability of bamboo seeds?

- If prices are roughly quoted in the Catalog, we will send you a quotation with exact prices.
